I am gutted with decisions and hegemony of PSA regarding live transmissions. If it's about money (and probably it is), in my opinion it's silly. 13 USD would not make a deal for them. Take a look at current steps from PSA LIVE TV (formerly the Official channel of PSA Tour). They will broadcast for free! This is to make squash popular.

lol, they keep shooting themselves in the foot, how can coverage be bad?

Coverage of any *competition* is Bad (in their eyes). Such a naive line of thinking. Will they ban media coverage to be the ONLY one? And by the way, what's the role of PSA? Isn't their job to promote the squash? Narrowing the channel of communication will narrow their possibilities

i think it is a misguided sense of keeping control. what reasons did they give for instructing you to stop? what did nimick say? whats in the tournament contract? seems like they don't understand new media, how the Internet and the squash community can help the sport. now with squashtv they seem to want to corner the market, squeeze out any competition.

Interesting, I'm sure the mayor's office would love to hear how the a function in a public place with public figures isn't granted full access to press and media coverage. I think there are some first amendment issues here

Via Email - J in USA

Just because someone asks you to do something, doesn't mean you have to do it. If you are in public, you have the right to take video and pictures - that's the law.

I actually cant think of a logical reason for this, unless the PSa fears that the coverage would be amateur'ish and put the game in disrepute in some way... still, its silly of them to do. The effort that has to be made to see/hear about squash (especially in darkest Africa) is substantial, and they just keep making it harder...

This is a disgrace but sadly the way that Gough thinks he can run a tour - no doubt he will backtrack but the power crazy idiots that run the game there now. With all the efforts on their new webcast site which doesn't do half the things that psalive did just illustrates the sad sad world of the psa right now. By stopping interviews, is he hoping that more people will PAY to watch on their channel - which is stupid anyway as I've been watching for free on bet365 anyway.

PS shaun - have you checked the legal situation of the PSA webcasting TOC for betting purposes ?

I think PSA Squash TV provides some amazing opportunities for our sport. There are some growing pains and a learning curve that is being undertaken in the public eye.

I am concerned, in some circles there might be a rush to judgement, hi-light the negative to embarass rather than a spirit of trying to help, support and encourage to make the product better and successful.

What would be most helpful I believe is greater communication and engagement by PSA Management with stakeholders and customers. Share your efforts, struggles, learnings, plans, hopes ... make us feel a part of what you are building, help us feel we are "in the boat rowing with you."

ZAG, please, do not try to be so politically-correct. PSA announced the tender for web-broadcast some time ago (August-September 2009) and the winning company should be READY with EVERYTHING… or am I mistaken? What do we have now? Promises, promises, promises... and disappointment from us - fans and enthusiasts. I lost my passion for squash live online. I lost my understanding and patience as well.

and I forgot to mention...You think PSA SQUASH TV provides some amazing opportunities for squash. Let me enchant you :) PSALIVE.tv used those opportunities pretty well already - forum/chat/ support/ slow-mo replays / downloads... The truth behind the final choice won't be unveiled, but I am sure their offer for the tender was rock-solid. They have had everything needed. Now they may laugh out loud seeing what's going on. SHAME.

I don't know you Slav-sky but I agree 100% - how come they are just adding these things one by one. I couldn't even register for their memebship a few days before toc as the website was not accepting members due to a missing field - so THEY COULDN'T EVEN BE BOTHERED TO TEST THE THING ! DISGRACE. I thought it was funny that the email I got for the nationals said something like "why bother with paying for several people when 1 or 2 guys do it and give you the squash for free"
  • Slav_Sky
    by Slav_Sky 1 month ago
Johhny, it's easy - WE tell them what THEY SHOULD do and THEY will CONSIDER. I go for Brit Nationals. Service is for free, you have support, you have chat (Ade promised the NEW ONE!), you have slow motion replays...

Generally - I think squash needs money. and sponsors. But to be there squash needs promotion. squash won't reach TENNIS popularity with rich sponsors, with worldwide tv coverage etc... having said that, i do suggest some eyes and ears to be opened. and creative. innovative.

Where was the live coverage on TV as well - nil ! I agree the psalive India event was fantastic and I'm pretty sure the guy said on commentary that it was him alone doing it all - i read an article on the psas media site squashsite which showed about seven people there. wtf were they all doing ?
  • Johny
    by Johny 1 month ago
Where are the "improved camera angles" PSA - and here I am still still waiting for replays - so even with loads more people are there (I've seen the picture on squashsite showing about 6-7 people) they cannot deliver the most basic product - ABSOLUTE RUBBISH PSA - Will they answer this - of course not because they have no spine!

new web streaming was very disappointing.

the juvenile commentary was so bad it was embarrassing. i mean, really, really, amateurish and embarrassing.

typical psa: one step forward, six steps back

I heard the commentator swear once also in NY - I have got the TOC Matches from last year and they had 3 cameras that were not there this year. PSA TOTAL DISGRACE !

@tintin - which step you consider as "forward"? Did I miss anything? Changing PSALIVE for another company was sideway-step IMO.

UNBELIEVABLE - MATCH REPLAYS HAVE TURNED SUDDENLY INTO "SELECTED" MATCH REPLAYS - ITS A SCAM

Slav. It was just a figure of speech. i agree with you.
i hear that trouble is brewing, inside the psa
apparently there is friction between two senior officers and the players are fed up with one person in particular having so much power and showing favoritism to certain friends

Tintin - I know it was figure of speach, I took it literally on purpose... @Johhny - they say it is due to the "rights reserved" or something like that. WHAT's he goal of a site offering ONLY live streaming without downloading option? Especially nowadays when internet is the ruling media in squash... i am gutted. spechless.

I see the appaling psasquash has yet again got more problems - having only given us selected TOC matches (and not some of the matches we wanted and we paid for), we are not having technical problems in sweden with my 10meg pipe having serious issues on the showing of the live webcast. Many other streaming sites worked fine so this is something at the PSA / Perform end - unbelievable waste of money.

Johny, every day (it seems) you add a critical Comment about the PSA Squash TV service. All views are welcome here at SquashZAG but sure would appreciate it if you would:
    - be detailed and specific with your criticisms and concerns
    - avoid name calling and language that is mean spirited and inflammatory
    - consider writing an article that outlines in full your concerns and criticisms ... even better would be including your ideas, suggestions to improve the situation, service

Speaking for myself and maybe others, the sniping day, after day, is detracting from your message and is wearing thin. This in no way speaks to the validity or truth to what you write. I personally think you raise many real and important issues and am thankful that you and others do speak up, most don't. But am concerned more with your manner and methods.

    Most sincerly and with thanks,

    Shawn

    More rubbish commentary today:
Barrington belched and swore. He also forgot the name of the company he was working for, as did a fellow commentator yesterday.
    unbelievable
